Wiley and the Hairy Man the Musical & H-O-N-K!

Lake Norman Charter’s “2016 North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC) State Winners” newest productions of Wiley and the Hairy Man the Musical by Suzan Zeder, and our very own Rachel Hull’s world premier of H-O-N-K.

Both plays are 45 minute one acts targeted for ages 7 and up. Being the inaugural year of the elementary school, we wanted to showcase two productions that not only are entertaining for our older audience members, but incorporate our younger growing family. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next with these two spell binding productions. The incorporation of illusory spectacles and a live orchestrated band “Irrashional" will have everyone from all ages in awe.

Wiley and the Hairy Man the Musical is an African folklore set deep within the mysterious Tombigbee swamps, and centers around a young fatherless boy (Wiley), his conjure-woman mother (Mammy), his faithful dog (DOG), and the (Hairy Man) who haunts Wiley. Through rhythm and rhyme, the (Chorus) creates the mystery of the swamp. In an exciting duel of wits, Wiley learns to rely upon his own resources and conquers two villains: the Hairy Man and his own fear.

H-O-N-K is a story written by one of our exemplary seniors, Rachel Hull. This showcases a young Hank, one of the most intelligent students at his school, and his struggles in search of his journey to success. The problem is no one really thinks he is going to amount to anything. They only judge him from his outside impositions. Hank has Tourette Syndrome (a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary movements or vocalizations more commonly known as tics), and has to learn to cope with his internal thoughts moreover than others.

These two productions are to be held on Friday and Saturday (October 13th/14th) and (October 20th/ 21st). Curtain call is at 6:30pm. There will be a special lobby experience this year incorporating the history, research, and additive kinesthetic activities for all ages with doors opening at 6:00pm.

Please help spread the word through your local community outlets, and bring the whole family!
