Charlotte Art League (CAL) is the oldest  grass-roots visual arts organization of its kind in Charlotte. From its beginning more than 40 years ago, CAL has grown from a small group of artists seeking community to a non-profit organization with a yearly membership averaging 175 artists and art lovers.

CAL resides in an 8,800 square foot former warehouse in the historic South End district. Our facility features a 2,000 square foot gallery featuring works by local artists, members and non-members, in shows that change monthly. CAL maintains studio and display space for its members to rent at reduced rates, providing more than 55 artists with a place to create and exhibit their art. This is especially beneficial to emerging artists, giving them the opportunity to show their art and be mentored by members who are highly skilled professionals.  CAL also offers classes to members and the public in various media at reasonable prices.

Our Outreach Program, which began in 2006, provides art classes to physically, intellectually and emotionally impaired adults in our community. Throughout the years, these classes have allowed hundreds of students from Goodwill Industries, Metrolina Association for the Blind and other organizations to create art, which is showcased in two special exhibitions each year.

Our efforts go to attaining our vision: "(To) exist for the purpose of art: to create it, teach it, foster it, promote it, advocate for it, and grow from it. CAL seeks to support both emerging and professional artists, as well as provide a visual art experience for the community at large."
