Two of Charlotte’s top professional theatre companies, Charlotte Conservatory Theatre and Three Bone Theatre, are thrilled to collaborate on an encore series of their acclaimed summer productions, this time at the dazzling Cain Center for the Arts in Cornelius. A Doll’s House, Part 2 and The Chinese Lady will each return for three performances between November 29-December 3. Audiences are encouraged to purchase tickets to both plays for a package discount.

Charlotte Conservatory Theatre, the company behind POTUS, returns to the Cain Center for the Arts with its acclaimed Mint Museum production of A Doll’s House, Part 2.

In the 1879 debut of Henrik Ibsen’s iconic A Doll’s House, Nora Helmer shocked audiences with her infamous “door slam heard around the world,” a bold decision that terminated her relationships with her husband and children but created space for a budding relationship with herself.

Fast forward to 2017 and Lucas Hnath’s Tony-nominated sequel, A Doll’s House, Part 2. Nora is back, knocking on that same door she slammed fifteen years earlier. Now a successful, self-made writer, is Nora prepared to reckon with the family she left in her journey of self discovery? Audiences need not be familiar with the original play to feel gut punched by this bracingly funny and unabashedly contemporary sequel that dives into the aftermath of a courageous act.

Award-winning Charlotte company, Three Bone Theatre, is remounting their acclaimed production of Lloyd Suh’s The Chinese Lady at the Cain Center for the Arts. The Chinese Lady and star performances by Amy Wada and Stephen West-Rogers, received rave reviews during its run in August at The Arts Factory.

Based on a true story, Suh’s dark and poetic play explores the life of Afong Moy, the first documented Chinese woman to set foot on U.S. soil. Afong Moy was brought to America in 1834 to be put on display for a paying public who were mesmerized by her differences. For the next half-century, she performed across the Eastern United States for curious white people, showing them how she ate, what she wore, and the highlight of the event; how she walked with her tiny bound feet.

Lloyd Suh’s critically-acclaimed play explores an often overlooked and shameful portion of America’s colonial history through the eyes of a young Chinese woman. The Chinese Lady directed by Robin Tynes-Miller, stars Amy Wada and Stephen West-Rogers in this dynamic drama.
