BOOM Charlotte - The Intersection

Three days of art, performance and the unexpected.

Welcome to BOOM, Charlotte’s artist-led showcase of contemporary and experimental performance and visual art created on the fringes of popular culture. The event is three days long, but the spirit behind it is more than a weekend experience. BOOM is a movement, born from a belief in the explosive power of art to unite and strengthen our community.

Our mission is straight forward: to spark creativity and collaboration among a diverse group of artists, performers and audiences.

To deliver on that mission, we’ve gathered a unique coalition of artists, volunteers, nonprofits, businesses and neighborhood organizations who come together to transform the way art and culture are created and shared in the Queen City. 

BOOM Fringe features 30+ ticketed, original performances in several venues around Plaza Midwood. These "fringe" performances feature edgy, experimental, experiential, original work created by the presenting artists.  In addition to local groups , BOOM invites artists in from around the country. Ticketed performances and After Parties are $10 and can be purchased online, at the door 30 minutes before the event, or at the BOOM box office (located at 1924 Commonwealth Avenue) during the festival weekend. BOOM Intersection is the he space in which art, culture and community collide. We’ll have free live music and performance art on our outdoor stage, curated by some of the best music and dance organizations in Charlotte. The Intersection is located at 1924 Commonwealth Avenue and will provide an anchor for the festival by creating a location where audience and community members can congregate in an outdoor living room with couches and a fire pit, find out more about BOOM, play in the children’s activity spaces, and participate in a FREE, outdoor family-friendly environment. The Intersection will include public installations and participatory visual art, and activities.

Friday, April 26 from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Saturday, April 27 from 1:00 pm to 12:00 am

Sunday, April 28 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm
